Video Techniques and Influences

There are many variations of music video to choose form and take ideas off of. But for the song that I am doing is of the Indie rock genre and the style of the video would have ot follow suit to the genre so it doesn't look weird. Going back to the conventions of genre the Indie genre is a genre where the video consists of a lot of lets say 'arty' clips, for example black and white, this is because we associate independent people as wanting to be different and not to follow the conventions, but then this leads to new conventions being created for the genre and thus creating a cycle.

There are two aspects to this video that I enjoy and would like to incorporate into my music video.
The first of which is the obvious black and white effect that is used throughout the video, however what i would be doing differently is I would be using the black and white effect only for the memories that are going to interlink with my narrative and the rest of it will be in colour.
The second effect that I will be using from this video is the slow motion effect from the video, again although this effect lasts throughout the video but I will only be using is for some short scenes, the main reason I will be using the effect is to show the use of memories, This would be a good technique as it shows the fact that memories get played over in your head all of the time and they tend to come back and be the focus of your brain when you are thinking about them abd they also seem to last for a while
so thats the reasoning behind the slow motion, I also like the Technique that is used behind the effect, as it is very effective.

The above is just a quick tutorial that I found on YouTube, showing how you can achieve smooth frame connections in slow motion using a regular 30 frames per second camera, it is also in my preferred editing software so it would take me less time to create this effect.

The video which I had just embedded is a video for an acoustic version of this particular artists song, this video influences me as I have some performance aspect in my music video and the shots that are used are pretty much the same ones that appear in mine. It also influences me as it gives me an idea of what Mise-en-scene is needed to make the recording studio look as realistic as possible, this goes down to the lighting of the room, which in this video has a red sort of tinge and glow to it, which is what I visualised that i would create in my video to give it a more authentic look to the video and keeps within the diegesis that I will be creating for my video. Another technique that I can take from this video is the speed and frequency of the cross cuts, they are roughly the same transition from one cut to another, one other thing that I can take from this video is the tracking camera shot that goes around the artists head as he is performing and i would like to incorporate something similar to that. I love the realistic look of the studio and it adds to the diegesis

This is a tutorial for the Nashville video filter on Sony Vegas pro. I like this because it will give the video a vintage and a warm tinge to it which I could use instead of the black and white effect. The main reasoning behind this is that the memories in this song are supposed to be happy and black and white often refers to bad memories or sadness, while this filter makes things look warm and cosy, bringing happiness to the video which goes hand in hand with the song.
